Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina needs volunteers to get involved in ending hunger in our region. They could never accomplish all we do without each and every volunteer. One hour of your time provides SHFBM with $22.99 in labor savings. SHFBM annual savings with volunteers like you equals $5.8 million dollars! These savings are dollars that are used to feed more hungry people.

  • Volunteers will help SHFBM to inspect and sort food or non-food products in our Charlotte warehouse that will get boxed and distributed to our partner agencies.
  • Is there a training class? Yes, training will be at the start of your volunteer session. We ask that you are courteous and arrive 15 minutes before your shift so that you can sign-in and make a name tag and be ready at the start of your shift. Latecomers may not be able to work with their group.
  • Please remember that per OSHA regulations, closed-toe shoes must be worn in our working warehouse. Please dress accordingly as it may be chilly in the colder months and warm during summer.
  • Please leave valuables at home as there are NO lockers.
  • All Volunteers must be Age 13 and up. Age 13-16 must have an adult 21 and older with them during the shift. Sorry no younger siblings will be permitted in warehouse due to safety policies.
  • Volunteering at SHFBM does require you to stand for the shift and some light lifting.

Come out and join members from University Community in serving the community!
