"Our Colorblind Blind Spot: Unlocking Inclusive Design", Speaker: Rachel Cox; North (Cabarrus & Huntersville) Virtual Meeting
Topic:
Did you know 8% of men and 0.5% of women have color-blindness? Learn about common challenges for those who have it, as well as practical strategies for designing in ways that are considerate and inclusive! Even if you're not a "designer," this is for everybody. We all make color choices -- from our emails to reports and presentations -- that impact our colleagues and customers.
Objectives/Takeaways:
Learn how people with color-blindness see and the common challenges they face, as well as practical strategies for designing in ways that are considerate and inclusive.
In this interactive webinar, I'll show you:
- Some color basics
- A little science behind color-blindness & simulations of what the world looks like for those who have it
- The root of the problem, which is about contrast
- Common problems in the office and quick fixes
- Special color palettes you can use
- And finally, a few more tips and techniques for designing in a colorblind-friendly way

Speaker Bio:
Rachel is an aerospace engineer with a B.S. in mechanical engineering and 11 years at NASA Kennedy Space Center. She is also a lifelong artist who is passionate about design and communication. Rachel noticed an invisible problem at work: people with color-blindness were missing out on visual information, and people with normal vision were either unaware or unsure what to do about it. She dove into the scientific research, collected design tools and techniques, and put it all together in this webinar that she has been using to share her knowledge with others.
