We present a qualitative analysis of the project and programme assurance review outcomes generated by the governance requirements of the UK Government Major Projects Portfolio. The analysis seeks to generate new insights into the framing of review recommendations, the treatment of assurance review data (captured from the Infrastructure and Project Authority (IPA)’s database of review recommendations), and the subsequent progress on action that arise. While we found Delivery Confidence Assessments tended to improve over the project lifecycle, this article makes some suggestions for improving the current assurance processes.
