PMI Carolina In-Person Pints & PDU Day - Generative AI Governance for the Enterprise Project Manager

Ways of Working
Presentation Description:

AI is no longer a side experiment. It is embedded in your project teams, your vendor deliverables, your procurement workflows, and your reporting tools. The technology moved fast. The governance did not. For enterprise project managers, that gap is now your problem to solve.

This session is built for PMs who are managing projects in organizations where generative AI and agentic systems are already in use or on the roadmap. It is not a legal briefing. It is a governance playbook. You will learn what an enterprise AI governance framework actually looks like, what belongs in the AI use policy you should be advocating for, and how to build the oversight structures that let your organization scale AI without scaling risk.

We will cover the current state of AI regulation so you understand the landscape, but the focus is on what you control. How do you govern AI usage on your projects when your organization's policy is incomplete or nonexistent? How do you handle vendors and contractors who are using AI on your deliverables? How do you build human-in-the-loop checkpoints into your project plans? How do you budget for token costs that behave nothing like traditional software licensing? And how do you position yourself as the PM who brings the governance framework to leadership rather than waiting for someone else to figure it out?
We will also do a rapid status check on agentic AI, because autonomous systems that plan, reason, and act without step-by-step human direction are arriving in enterprise environments right now, and they multiply every governance question by an order of magnitude.

You will walk away with a practical understanding of AI governance frameworks, a clear picture of what should be in your organization's AI policy, a working knowledge of the cost structures that will hit your project budgets, and the vocabulary to lead the governance conversation in your organization.
